On June 1, 2006, METOCEAN Environment Inc. and NIKKEN Consultants, Inc. were merged and renamed as IDEA Consultants, Inc.

METOCEAN Environment Inc. was established in 1953 as Tojo Weather Service Center, which was reestablished and renamed as Shin-Nippon Meteorological & Oceanographical Consultant Co., Ltd. in 1968 to reflect its operations and services. It changed its name again in 2001 to METOCEAN Environment Inc. With these changes, the company has grown in its diversity and number of staff through providing integrated consultancies in environmental science.

NIKKEN Consultants, Inc. was established in 1959. It evolved as a civil engineering and consultancy firm, specializing in providing consistent services from the planning/ designing to management/evaluation stages in infrastructure development projects, predominantly for river basin planning and transportation sectors.

Moving into the 21st century, people are seeking a sound and secure society, enhanced corporate social responsibilities, and integrated and diversified expertise from consultant firms. At the same time, business markets require higher corporate values.

To meet the growing demands for consultant firms to serve society in the coming decades, METOCEAN and NIKKEN decided to merge into one company, IDEA Consultants, Inc. This merger evolved from successful collaborations that started in 2001, and has strengthened our cooperative partnership.
